Our intention is to progressively thin and manage eucalyptus while creating opportunities for greater diversity. Selective removal can reduce competition, improve access, lower fuel continuity, provide useful biomass and create space for other species.
Goats may help manage understory vegetation where appropriate, although their impact upon desirable regeneration must be controlled. Over time, selected areas can provide opportunities for cork oak, medronho, productive trees and other vegetation appropriate to the site.
This is not an overnight transformation. Woodland stewardship operates on a long timescale.
