Fire behaviour emerges from interactions between weather, topography, fuel type, fuel moisture, continuity and management. Focusing on one species can obscure wider landscape problems such as abandonment, unmanaged shrubland and increasingly severe fire weather.
Our intention is to progressively thin and manage eucalyptus while creating opportunities for greater diversity — reducing competition, improving access, lowering fuel continuity and providing useful biomass.
A eucalyptus tree has more than one possible destination. The highest value of a tree is not necessarily the price it commands at the mill — it can also lie in the soil it eventually builds, the energy it provides and the opportunity its management creates.
