Community Stewardship

No farm exists in isolation. Water, wildlife and fire all move between properties. The resilience of Monchique cannot be achieved one isolated quinta at a time — stewardship must ultimately become collaborative.

1

Beyond the Farm Boundary

Water moves between properties. Wildlife moves between properties. Fire moves between properties. The actions of one landowner can affect many others. Stewardship ultimately has to become collaborative.

2

Rebuilding Rural Cooperation

Historically, rural communities depended upon cooperation. As rural populations declined, many of those relationships weakened. Rebuilding them is part of landscape regeneration.

3

Teaching Through Demonstration

People do not need another lecture telling them how they should manage their land. They need opportunities to see ideas working. Raízes da Montanha gives us the opportunity to develop such a place.
