No land-management system can guarantee protection from extreme wildfire. Our objective is to improve the odds. We seek to create a landscape that is difficult for fire to move through continuously and capable of recovering after disturbance.
This includes managing fuel while retaining ecological cover. It means maintaining access without unnecessarily stripping the land. It means storing water while providing safe overflow. It means using animals where appropriate. It means maintaining firefighting equipment when weather conditions demand readiness.
It also means preparing people. Fire is not merely a forestry issue. It is a whole-landscape issue.
